Mommy of the Year

I was just a wee bit late picking the kids up from school. Must have been why I was daydreaming about something or other and mindlessly tailgating the poor guy in front of me when I hear Carter's quiet voice, "uh. mom?" I instinctively look in the rear view mirror and catch a full view of Sarah's goofy grin looking smack back at me. AHHH!! Scared the beejeebees out of me! Of course I forgot to latch her in. Of course she flipped over, stood up, and enjoyed a forward standing thrill-probably for about 15 minutes!. Of course Carter waited to tell me because he thought it was neat. Of course I felt terrible (but took a picture anyway). Look at her face. Of course she knew she was up to something. :)

SCARY! That was probably the highlight of her week! It's like ridin' a roller coaster!

Steph - that happened to me once too when Blake was really little. Somehow, Brett or I had forgotten to refasten the seatbelt on the carseat base... so when I made a pretty sudden stop, Blake and his carseat fell! He thought it was funny. What a scary feeling! I think those moments are a little reminder to take a little time and notice the details. She looks so cute in that picture.

I'm glad to know I'm not the only one going a little crazy with all the changes and obligations a new year brings. The other day I filled up my gas tank and realized when I got back in the car that I had left it running the whole time....with my children inside!
I still love the picture, and the fact that Carter just enjoyed watching and playing with her before he told her!

What an adorable face! We've all done that. Some of us have also had the police called on us for car-related child incidents.. Life is crazy, no way to avoid it! :)

OH I could think of many more examples of how you are mother of the year, not one of them negative. I'm so happy to call you daughter. You are so special in our lives, a mother, a wife, a granddaughter, a friend, and a wonderful daughter (even if you are an in-law) that just doesn't count. Thank you every day for making our grandchildren feel special and loved. Thank you for making our son so happy and content being able to do what he loves most, being a surgeon, a father, and a husband, not to mention a wonderful son. Thank you for loving us and letting us be a part of your lives. We miss you every day.
