Our Favorite Place: CAMP JOSEPH

This truly is our favorite place. The green is luscious. The hosts are gracious. The camping is clean and the spirit is peaceful. Many years ago our friends, the Mender's were the brain and brawn behind getting Camp Joseph cleared, built, and beautified. Now we are the beneficiaries of this amazing spot--we never tire of it! We always squeeze two or three camping trips in every summer. Our first celebrated Father's Day and Tyler's birthday. Our next? On Friday.

Sarah - just excited to be out and about in beautiful weather with so many places to play and wander.

The boys - sometimes I long for them to be babies again. They are simply growing up too fast. But then I rejoice in the changes that come with older children. They set up the tent, whittled the sticks, and gathered the wood for an all night fire (enjoyed by mom and dad after the kiddos went to bed.) It makes for low maintenance family trips. I actually got to sit and enjoy myself. These wood-gathering carts are great!

Tyler - putting his birthday present to good use. I don't think we've ever had so many nicely sharpened fire/marshmallow/hot dog sticks on a camping trip before.

Carter - how many smores have you eaten tonight?

And smores for breakfast, too!

And a fun volleyball game! Notice Sarah sitting on the ball. Not sure why she likes that so much.

Now for the best part. Hiking up at the Joseph Smith Memorial. Unbelievably green--it smells so good. It makes us feel like we are the only ones in the whole forest for just a few moments.

Tree stumps, bridges, streams, rocks, sticks, birds, butterflies, (mosquitoes) What more can you ask for? Time just slipped away--we didn't realize we'd been hiking for almost 4 hours.....

The most important part - we always take time to read the actual monument dedicated to the Prophet Joseph Smith. We also walk to the hearthstone still there from original home where the Prophet was born. We love to talk to our children and remind them that it wasn't a beautiful June day when he was born. It was December. In Vermont.

We'll be visiting many more times this summer.
